Who Are the Friends?

The Friends of the Library (FOL) is a public non-profit organization that welcomes everyone who is interested in supporting their local library.

What Is the Mission?

Each group's mission is,

"to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; to assist the library Board and staff in developing and sponsoring programs of educational, cultural, or recreational value for Friends and the community at large; and to develop fund-raising projects for the library..."

How Do the Friends Help?

By conducting fundraising activities to support the local library and its activities.

How Is the Money Used?

Although independent of the library system, the Friends communicate with library staff to pinpoint needs - needs that are expected to grow as library funding continues to be pinched.

Barlow Friends of the Library

Meetings

Meetings are normally held on the first Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

Projects

Regular fundraising projects include new and used book sales as well as ongoing sales of tote bags, laminating services, comb book binding, and die cuts.

The Barlow Friends have supported the Barlow Library by

Supporting summer reading activities.
Purchasing the laminator, comb book binder, Accu-Cut machine & dies, digital camera, and printer.
Supporting the Teen Advisory Board (TAB).

Belpre Friends of the Library

Meetings

Meetings are scheduled as needed.

Projects

Fundraising projects include selling canvas book bags and a perpetual book sale at the Belpre Library.

The Belpre Friends have supported the Belpre Library by

Buying incentives for Summer Reading and ongoing reading challenge.
Buying an outdoor sign board to promote library activities.
Assisting with the building of an outside garden.
Purchasing a laminator.
Purchasing a die-cut machine.
Supporting other programming as needed.

Beverly Friends of the Library

Meetings

Meetings are scheduled as needed.

Projects

Fundraising is done through used book sales.

The Beverly Friends have supported the Beverly Library by

Paying for subscriptions to USA Today and The Columbus Dispatch.
Assisting in the purchase of a magnifying machine with the Beverly Lions Club.
Supporting the Summer Reading Program.
Paying for the landscaping around the building.
Buying an Ellison Die Machine.
Helping pay for an expanded parking lot.

Marietta Friends of the Library

Meetings

Second Monday of the month, September through June, at 7:00 pm at the Library Annex, 617 Fifth Street.

Projects

Fundraising is done through used book sales and the sale of plastic and canvas book totes.

The Marietta Friends have provided the Marietta Library with

New shelving
Children's reading programs
A microfilm reader for the History and Genealogy Department
Rest and relaxation center, a parachute, and parachute book for Youth Services
Start-up of a library trust fund through the Marietta Community Foundation
and much more

In the past, they have funded purchases valued between $5,000 and $6,000 for the Marietta Library each year.

Annual memberships are $12 for a single person and $25 for a family. Memberships can be purchased at any book sale, at the Marietta Library circulation desk or by filling out and returning the printable form at the bottom of the page.

New Matamoras Friends of the Library

Meetings

Meetings are scheduled as needed.

Projects

Fundraising projects include the collection and recycling of cell phones and printer ink cartridges, and a perpetual book sale at the library.
