Public Use Computers

Computers are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as by reservation. Reservations can be made by phone or in person at a specific library location for the current day only. If you live in Washington County and the surrounding area, you need a library card for computer access. Library cardholders with fines $10 and over are allowed to use the computers. Visitors to the area can get a free guest pass on a day-to-day basis. All computer users are limited to three, 60-minute sessions per day.

A limited number of programs are installed on the computers, but most computers have Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point) as well as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome installed on them. Patrons are not allowed to install their own programs onto any of the libraries' computers.

Library staff is available for general assistance in using the computers. However, staff members are not expected to train patrons in the use of all programs.

Most of the computers allow Internet access. Please read the Internet Use Policy before browsing the Internet. The library employs a web filter to block access to objectionable websites. On request, the filter can be disabled for those 18 years or older.

Most computers are connected to either an Inkjet or LaserJet printer. Black and white printouts cost $.10 a page and color printouts cost $.50 a page. Printouts must be paid for in advance. Credit and debit cards are not accepted.

Our computers do not have floppy drives; however, most brands of USB drives (thumb drives) and CDs will work. USB drives are available for purchase at most locations.

All the library computers have regularly updated security software installed on them. However, as is the case with all computer security software, there is a possibility that some computer viruses or spyware can evade detection. The Library does not guarantee that the computers are virus and spyware-free and cannot be held responsible for the safety of your personal information.
